Hand-painted Wooden Skateboard Deck: Original painting on 8.0" Deck
I painted this wooden skateboard deck using acrylic gouache. It is finished with a semigloss varnish. It is intended as wall decor, but could function as an actual skateboard.
The painting is called "The Invention of Moonlight." It depicts the sun bestowing light onto the moon. The sun passes a small speck of light that illuminates both of their hands. This vaguely pagan design incorporates my love of sumptuous curves and dramatic lighting. I wanted the waves of sunbeams to collide and intermingle with the tide that the moon commands.
The painting is designed so that when you spin the board, the figures rotate around the point of light in the center.
I’m an independent artist based in New York City. My art explores themes of growth, utopia, climate change, and the human form. I’ve been making art since before I can even remember, but I’ve been doing this professionally for a few years. I’ve trained across many media, but I fell in love with gouache and watercolor paint - as you can see, these are the media I use the most. These paintings are a combination of my years of experience, many hours of meticulous work, and professional-grade materials. I paints that are highly pigmented and highly lightfast. Every artwork is carefully packaged - with reinforcement and moisture protection- and beautifully wrapped.
